This is pretty simple to answer ... A chamber of commerce is a group that’s dedicated to protecting and promoting the local business community. The primary goal? To help business owners network and grow.
Overall, most business owners feel a Chamber of Commerce membership is a must-have. There aren’t many cons– it’s an affordable group that will foster immediate connections and promote your business.
However, the Chamber of Commerce isn’t a magical business solution where you’ll see immediate 'Return on Investment' (ROI).
No matter what, you’ll have to work hard to get what you want out of it. And, you might run into your competitors. You’ll need to put on your game face when you do.
There are times where the Bouse Chamber needs to step somewhat out of the traditional Chamber comfort zone of a natural focus on the local business and in a way change to a more community minded approach. For Bouse this is where we do things a little different because without that community focus the local business will suffer in the long term.
We are a small community that needs to work together as a community to bring benefits to the whole town - businesses and individuals.
We have a strong network of clubs and organizations in Bouse that by working together can achieve some incredible results. A good community will support and encourage business interests.
Some business owners might say their schedule is demanding enough. That the thought of adding one more activity to their busy calendar is unbearable.
So why should they try to cram time into their already hectic schedules to join and actively participate in their local chamber of commerce?
Membership in the local chamber offers numerous benefits and keeps business owners on top of important, ever-changing issues and trends within their community and local marketplace.
Not only that, but research points out that consumers are more likely to do business with a company if it’s a member of their local chamber of commerce.
Most consumers (59%) think that being active in the local chamber of commerce is an effective business strategy overall.
It’s 29% more effective, however, for communicating to consumers that a company uses good business practices and 26% more effective for communicating that a business is reputable.
If a company shows that it’s highly involved in its local chamber (e.g., sits on the chamber board), consumers are 12% more likely to think that its products stack up better against its competition. When a consumer thinks that a company’s products stack up better against the competition because the company is highly involved in its local chamber of commerce, it is because he or she infers that the company is trustworthy, involved in the community and is an industry leader.
When consumers know that a business, franchise or company is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 43% more likely to consider buying or utilize a service from it.
